Perspectives 2021 – Ivanovska: Uncompromising fight against systemic corruption

“We will continue on the thorny path we followed in 2019, because corruption has become a way of life, it has penetrated into all pores of society,” said Biljana Ivanovska from the SCPC at the CIVIL conference “Perspectives 2021”.

“The basic step that needs to be taken in the fight against corruption is the fight of the person with him/herself, the integrity of a person and professional action can make progress. As long as we have some personal interest, maybe partisan, that road is cemented.

“The level of awareness of the citizens that they do not owe anything to anyone should increase,” she said.

Ivanovska says that they have started to open cases for non-professional employment, because such employment will cause the state to sink.

“The Government and the Parliament are on the move to adopt a law, legal changes must be made.

We pointed out that the appointment of directors who are an extended arm of the party should be eradicated. We pointed out a conflict of interest for Kushtrim Ramadani, who was hired by MEPSO, but we have the impression that the opinion of the SCPC is not fully respected by the institutions, although the European Commission in its report indicated that our opinion should be respected.

We have submitted initiatives for dismissal of some directors to the Government.

The SCPC has three challenges next year, and that is automatic data processing through special software. We need additional staffing, we already have the consent of the Ministry of Finance to employ 8 people, and we asked for 16 of them.

We asked the government for appropriate space conditions, but we received an answer that at the moment due to the pandemic there are no conditions for that, and we decided to make a reconstruction of this space where we are now, but in the meantime the state found money to buy the space provided for us and we feel played,” said Ivanovska.

The first anti-corruption woman emphasized that together with the public, the media, the non-governmental organizations that are their allies, she will be able to stand up in the fight against corruption.
