Full integration of Western Balkan countries into the European Union is an essential guarantee for further democratic development, stability and prosperity of the region. No EU member state should jeopardize the European future of our people by making irrational demands, President Stevo Pendarovski said Monday at a meeting with EU Ambassador to North Macedonia David Geer, adding that bilateral differences and challenges can be overcome only through dialogue and respect for the principles and fundamental values of the European Union and international law.
Participants exchanged at the meeting opinions and information regarding the European perspectives of the Republic of North Macedonia, possibilities for starting EU accession negotiations and implementation of reforms for meeting European standards.
“The Republic of North Macedonia remains strongly committed to the policy of good neighborliness and regional cooperation,” President Pendarovski said, emphasizing that the start of membership negotiations will be an additional impetus to accelerate reforms.
Participants also exchanged at the meeting, the President’s Office said in a press release, opinions on current measures and the COVID-19 situation in the European Union.
President Pendarovski thanked the EU for the solidarity and support it has offered the health sector, as well as the financial package to deal with socio-economic consequences of the pandemic.
