Restoring of trust between the two governments is necessary, which is to contribute to strengthening good neighborly relations and political dialogue on more sensitive matters. It is essential to settle mutual misunderstanding to allow the Macedonian EU integration process to proceed uninterrupted and to neutralize growing Euroscepticism and negative tendencies in the region, President Stevo Pendarovski said at Tuesday’s meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov during his official visit to Skopje.

At the meeting it was discussed about the possibilities for advancing bilateral cooperation in several areas of joint interest, considering that North Macedonia and Bulgaria are close neighbors and NATO allies. In that regard, the President expressed support for the dialogue between the two governments, the concrete proposals, as well as the intentions to intensify talks in the upcoming period in order to achieve measurable results for the interest of citizens, the President’s Cabinet said.

According to Pendarovski, the start of accession negotiations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the European Union will be beneficial for the prosperity and stability of the entire region. It will additionally affect the promotion of cooperation in economy, trade, infrastructure, as well as cooperation in the fields of education, health and culture.
