Vaccination against Covid-19 across the world is of key importance without delay, said President Stevo Pendarovski in a video address at the Virtual Global Summit for fighting Covid-19 “Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better to Prepare for the Next”.
The Summit is organized by US President Joe Biden, on the sidelines of the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations that is being held in New York.
To achieve a high vaccination rate at the global level, as President Pendarovski said, we must all fight against the systematic injustices with a fair, inclusive and equitable distribution of effective vaccines.
The State President expressed support for the common global goals for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, presented by US President Biden, assessing them as key in stopping this threat.
-For over a year, we have all been living with the catastrophic consequences of the pandemic, poor and vulnerable individuals and societies, certainly, disproportionally more than others. Not a single country can stop this pandemic alone. We need to cooperate, support each other and remember that Covid-19 is not under control anywhere until it is under control everywhere. North Macedonia supports the common global goals that were presented today by US President Joe Biden, and considers them as key in stopping this threat, said Pendarovski in the address.
He added that 55% of the citizens in the country have already been vaccinated with at least one dose.
-While I am speaking, 55% of the population in North Macedonia has already been vaccinated with at least one dose. Hence, we are absolutely sure and make a promise to fully vaccinate at least 70% of the population until the end of this year. However, in order to achieve this goal at the global level as soon as possible, we all should fight against the systematic injustices with a fair, inclusive and equitable distribution of effective vaccines. And at the same time, we need to fight the destructive effects of fake news and disinformation campaigns by spreading truth and transparency, outlined the President.
Vaccination, he added, alone is not enough. To cure the world, as President Pendarovski stressed, we must set foundations for a more resilient, integrated, just and inclusive global health system that will help us prevent, detect, react and recover from any future pandemics and other global health threats. / MIA
