Today, Pavle Trajanov, President of the Democratic Union and Member of Parliament, to the Constitutional Court, submitted an initiative, requesting the abolition of provisions of the Electoral Code which provide a systemic / monopoly position for four parties (SDSM, VMRO-DPMNE, DUI and ALLIANCE OF ALBANIANS), during the election process, reported by the Democratic Union.
– In the law, 90% of the media space for financing belongs to these parties, as well as the financial means for the election campaign and the advertising space for billboards, billboards, etc.
Just as an example, out of nine minutes of extra time for media coverage, eight belong to the four parties, and only one minute to all other parties and independent lists.
With these provisions, the four parties secure a huge advantage in presenting their programs and candidates for MPs, mayors, councilors or the president of the state.
These provisions violate the Constitutional Principle for equality of parties in the conduct of elections.
Article 75 paragraph 2 of the Electoral Law states, inter alia: “Participants in the election campaign have the right to equal access and under equal conditions to use all types of political propaganda, reporting and other forms of propaganda aimed at influencing the decision of the voters during the voting. ”
However, the same law violates this position and envisages favorable solutions for the four parties, two from the position, two from the opposition, which won the most votes in the last parliamentary elections.
This systemic advantage prevents other parties from presenting their programs to the citizens and for the citizens to be able to decide who to vote for.
We expect the Constitutional Court to repeal the disputed provisions, so that all parties and independent lists and candidates will have an equal chance of winning the elections. reads the statement of the Democratic Union.
