Parliamentary Committee on Elections and Appointment Issues is to hold a session on Monday to determine the list of candidates for members of State Election Commission (SEC). The term of the current SEC ends on January 15.
Fourteen candidates including former and current SEC members, employees in the electoral body as well as lawyers have submitted applications for election of SEC members, Parliament sources told MIA.
VMRO-DPMNE will nominate Aleksandar Dashtevski for the post of President of the SEC. The opposition party VMRO-DPMNE most likely is to support Boban Stojanovski, parliamentary staffer, to be nominated for the member of SEC, party’s sources said.
The ruling SDSM party has not yet decided which three candidates they will nominate. Current members of the SEC supported by the ruling party Boris Kondarko, Janake Vitanovski and Radica Risteska submitted applications at the public call.
There is also no official information on who will be a member of the SEC supported by SDSM’s coalition partner, DUI. According to Parliament sources, the Vice President of the SEC, Ditmire Shehu, also submitted application.
The Alliance of Albanians/Alternativa coalition will probably nominate its own candidate, and will likely to support the candidate Krenar Loga.
After the Committee on Elections and Appointment Issues determines the list of candidates on Monday, it will submit it to the Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, who will forward it to the parties that have to decide which candidates they will support for members of the country’s top electoral body. The members of the State Election Commission shall be elected by the Parliament, with 2/3 majority of votes from the total number of MPs.
