Parliament at a session on Tuesday will elect a president and members of the State Election Commission (SEC) and of the Commission for Prevention and Protection from Discrimination.
Speaker Talat Xhaferi has scheduled a plenary session after the Parliament’s Election and Appointment Issues Committee verified the list of candidates for members of the State Election Commission. Shortly after, Xhaferi forwarded the list of 14 candidates to the parties, which should decide which candidate they will endorse.
It’s certain that by Tuesday afternoon, the parties will send motions to Xhaferi, because he has already scheduled a new plenary session where MPs should elect Commission members. This session will be preceded by a session of the Election and Appointment Issues Committee where the names of the candidates should be unveiled.
So far, only VMRO-DPMNE has reaffirmed its endorsement of Aleksandar Dashtevski as Commission head. The other names are yet to be revealed.
The term of the current structure of the State Election Commission ends on Jan. 15.
Also at today’s session, MPs will elect members of the Commission for Prevention and Protection from Discrimination.
