The Parliament is set to discuss Thursday the motion for amendments of the Rules of Procedures related to the online participation of MPs who have tested positive for COVID-19 or those in isolation, filed by Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.
The motion, which is almost similar to the one that SDSM put forward in mid-October, is rejected by the opposition parties by saying it is unconstitutional and a way to cover the thin majority of ruling parties in the Parliament.
VMRO-DPMNE and the Alliance for Albanians/Alternativa have not said whether they are to attend the session, but announced they would not take part in coordination meetings and certain sessions after Speaker Xhaferi put the motion on today’s agenda.
“We call on the opposition lawmakers to stay involved in the Parliament’s work. All ideas were made public on time, we have been speaking about this topic for three months now. The Parliament will not operate online in its entirety,” Xhaferi has told MIA.
Several MPs infected with COVID-19 or in self-isolation have been absent from the Parliament over a certain period, hindering the chamber’s work.
The amendments require a majority of 61 votes.
