Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani, during his visit to Washington, had a meeting with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
At the meeting, interlocutors were both happy about the upcoming Strategic Dialogue between North Macedonia and the United States, which is a new step in bilateral relations and upgrading of the strategic partnership between the two countries, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“It is a special honor for us that North Macedonia is the first country in the Western Balkans to maintain a strategic dialogue with the United States, an important process through which our strategic partnership is deepened and our bilateral cooperation is framed more specifically. This step in bilateral relations is another confirmation of the strong friendship and mutual interest in strengthening the alliance between the two countries”, said Osmani.
The current security situation was also discussed at the meeting, with a joint condemnation of the Russian military invasion, as well as strong support and solidarity with Ukraine. At the same time, it was emphasized that the current situation requires new dynamics in the European integration processes of the Western Balkan countries, which will confirm the credibility of the EU and will encourage the processes of overcoming differences and reconciliation in the region.
“The EU enlargement process is a security issue, and the European perspectives of the Western Balkan countries, and the credibility of this process, are essential for regional and European stability. We are grateful for the strong American support for the start of the negotiation process in North Macedonia as soon as possible, which is currently the best way to preserve the credibility of these processes”, Osmani said.
