The ODIHR mission today will announce the preliminary assessment from the local elections observation in North Macedonia.
Tana de Zulueta, Head of the ODIHR Election Observation Mission and Stefan Krause, Deputy Head of the Mission will present their findings at a press conference at 3.00 pm.
In North Macedonia, the first round of the seventh local elections was held yesterday, in which mayors and members of councils are elected in 80 municipalities and the City of Skopje. At 3.480 polling stations, citizens could give their vote for a total of 10.831 candidates, of which 299 for mayors, and the rest for members of council, on 91 lists submitted by a group of voters, that is, independent, and 31 lists of political parties and coalitions. 1.824.864 citizens had the right to vote.
A total of 1.045 domestic and foreign observers and translators were accredited for the 2021 Local Elections. The OSCE/ODIHR Mission for assessment of the elections had 217 accredited observers. Head of mission de Zulueta yesterday in a statement for journalists said that the Mission will stay for the second round of the elections as well, if necessary.
