According to the Public Health Institute’s weekly report for March 1-7, a total of 21,090 smears were analyzed in labs equipped to detect SARS-CoV-2 in North Macedonia, 4.6 % more compared to the previous week, the Health Ministry said Wednesday.
A total of 4,463 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in 35 cities and towns across the country, which is an increase of 23% compared to the previous week. Most COVID-19 cases were reported in Skopje (48.3%).
The percent of positive cases was between 13.2 and 26.7% in the reporting period, which registers an average of 20.9%.
Cases of COVID-19 infections were registered in all age groups, shows the report. With 23%, people over 60 make up most of the cases. Infections were also registered among people in the age group of 30-39 (20.1%), 40-49 (17.8%), 50-59 (17.4%), and 20-29 (14%). Very few cases are registered in children aged 0-9 (2.3%), and 10-19 (5.2%).
Also, 3,895 recoveries were reported, which is more than twice than the week before.
During the reporting period, 57 fatalities in 16 cities were registered, 17.4% less compared to the previous week. Of those, 50 people were over 60, five were aged 50-59, one was aged 40-49 and one was aged 30-39.
