November 5: New functions and owners, visits, trials…

NEWS OF THE DAY: Sassoli: It’s not a historical mistake that you did not start negotiations, but rather a slowdown that will soon be overcome

At the European Council there wasn’t a “no” for the process of negotiations to start, rather that this issue will again be put for consideration. We need to explain to the public that it is not a matter of “no”, nor a historical mistake. I prefer to say that it is a historical slowdown, in order

for us to come back to it and for this process of negotiations to start as soon as possible. We have a common future, let’s write it together.

These were the key messages that the President of the European Parliament referred today to the MPs, to top state officials, leaders of religious communities and representatives of diplomatic missions, in his address in the Parliament of North Macedonia.

Zekjir Ramcilovic proposed for new Parliament Vice-President

Zekjir Ramcilovic, who as of November 1 is functioning as an independent MP in Parliament, has been nominated by DUI and SDSM MPs to be new Vice-President of Parliament.

The group of MPs yesterday submitted this request to the President of the Parliament, Talat Xhaferi, who is expected to propose Ramcilovic to be elected Vice-President at the 116th parliamentary session that is expected to start this afternoon.

EVN Macedonia new owner of the City House under Kale Fortress

EVM Macedonia is the new owner of the City House on the Vardar Quay. The City of Skopje informs that yesterday the electronic auction had successfully been completed, which, as they indicate, is the first procedure for the sale of the facility of the City of Skopje that is located under the Skopje Kale.

– At the public announcement published on 17.10.2019, number 01/2019, for sale of real estate for the first time by electronic public bidding, the company EVN – Macedonia had been the only one to apply until the deadline. According to legal regulations, yesterday (04.11.2019), electronic public bidding took place with the only company that had applied, an initial asking price of 785.031.818 denars was reached, announced the City of Skopje.

FLASH NEWS

– The trial for the “Talir” case, which refers to the unlawful financing of the VMRO-DPMNE party, has been postponed for December 13, due to the absence of Ilija Dimovski.

– Today in the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, a round table was held titled “Changing the election model from six to one constituency and open lists”.

– President Stevo Pendarovski’s meeting with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron has been confirmed, and as we have been informed from the President’s cabinet, the meeting will take place on November 12, when Pendarovski will participate at the Paris Peace Forum.

– The Government is not expected at today’s regular session to decide on SONK’s demands regarding the salaries in education, stated the Minister of Education, Arber Ademi.

“We are in the process of negotiations between the Ministry of Education and Science, the Government and SONK, we are going in a good direction. Today we have a regular government

session and we are not expected to decide today on this issue. We should decide in the following days, if not even tomorrow, on what to do next”, said Ademi.

– The Parliamentary Committee on Political System and Relations Among the Communities today in the first reading supported the Draft Law on the rights of communities that are less than 20 percent of the population of the Republic of North Macedonia. The Committee decided in the meanwhile to conduct a public debate where all remarks to the proposed law will be presented.

– The loan conditions both for households and enterprises in the third quarter of the year have eased. Data published by the National Bank in the Survey for credit activity show that further easing of the conditions is expected also in the fourth quarter.

OPINION

The role of powder for euro-penetration

“It is not easy being French Ambassador in Skopje these past several weeks. On the one side, conflicts have to be managed on a daily basis and controversial views on EU enlargement coming from centers of power in Paris (for example, those of the Senate, as opposed to the presidential position); on the other hand, it should be done with an ambassador stance of principality, which with the current French Ambassador comes as an irresistible mixture of sympathy and joviality, lightly colored with powdered French pomposity”, writes Saso Ordanoski.

Dr. Frankenstien

“What Koce didn’t succeed to do, Petre is finishing off. The Skopje square, in the very city center that turned gray during former Mayor Trajanov’s time, as it turns out, is becoming even more gray during Mayor Shilegov’s time. Trucks are lining up in front of the GTC entrance. The long multi-ton trucks are largely dumping all kinds of concrete stuff. There is also some granite, whatever. Both one and the other, gray. Not green, but gray”, writes Zoran Ivanov.

“Political correctness”, a magical phrase of today’s “tailors” of public opinion

Various, “liberal forums” on the Internet, and at universities that consider themselves bastions of tolerance, use phrases with political correctness in their views or disagreements when it comes to (non)tolerance in all aspects, gender, ethnic, religious, social as well as political. Most often, by using politically correct terms, the labelling of a certain term, group or occurrence in society is

actually highlighted. Those who use political correctness go too far in seemingly embracing noble ideals such as inclusion, rights and representation of certain social groups, and at the same time ignoring them because they do not correspond to their notion of those rights and real inclusions, primarily, due to fear of “danger” of losing their own!?!”, writes Diana Tahiri.

Angela Petrovska in cooperation with Маја Ivanovska, Diana Tahiri, Saso Ordanosnoski, Zoran Ivanov.
