Justice Minister Bojan Marichikj held a meeting on Tuesday with Ambassadors of EU member states to North Macedonia and discussed preparations for carrying out the census.
State Statistical Office director Apostol Simovski and his deputy Ilmi Selami also attended the meeting.
Following the adoption of the census law and the publication of the methodology, the Justice Ministry said in a press release, stakeholders in charge of organizing the census have been working hard to ensure the successful implementation of this statistical operation, crucial for the country’s development.
“North Macedonia last carried out a census in 2002, followed by a failed attempt at the process in 2011. It’s one of the few countries in the world that has not conducted a census in 19 years. These are some of the reasons why North Macedonia has to carry out this process, in line with protocols aiming to protect public health. We had a similar experience holding successfully early parliamentary election amid a pandemic,” Marichikj stressed.
The Minister, the press release added, presented to EU Ambassadors numerous judicial reforms focused on vetting and digitalization.
Several EU members have announced support for implementation of IT in court processes.
Minister Marichikj thanked meeting participants for this support, saying that their experience has been of vital importance for North Macedonia, the press release read.
