North Macedonia has sent a formal request to Bulgaria for extradition of ex-policeman Igor Spasov, the Ministry of Justice said on Wednesday.
The extradition request has been signed by Justice Minister Bojan Marichikj.
Ex-policeman Igor Spasov, who was accused of murdering a young man in 2011, was arrested in early February in Sofia by Bulgarian police acting on an international arrest warrant.
A court in Skopje sentenced Spasov to 14 years in prison for the murder of Martin Neshkoski in downtown Skopje as VMRO-DPMNE was celebrating its election win in 2011.
The Interior Ministry had issued an international warrant for Spasov for his arrest in late October 2019 after not returning to prison upon completing his medical treatment.
