Based on the Prespa Agreement and Greece’s commitment to support North Macedonia’s institutions in the Euro-integration process, the Council for Advancement and Oversight of Audit of the Republic of North Macedonia (SUNR) and the Hellenic Accounting and Auditing Standards Oversight Board (HAASOB) will sign a strategic partnership agreement in Athens on Wednesday.
The agreement will ensure the development of SUNR’s capacities and alignment of its competencies and the law on audit of public legal entities with European directives, the Council said in a press release.
“HAASOB is putting itself at complete disposal for the purpose of establishing an efficient and effective system of public oversight of the audit profession in North Macedonia, in line with European practices. This will strengthen public trust and stimulate economic activity and interest of Macedonian companies. The Hellenic Board is undertaking the duty to mentor SUNR’s path towards its integration in the Committee of European Auditing Oversight Bodies (CEAOB), ensuring access to European practices in the field. All activities will be funded through the EU twinning programme for institutional development of Union candidate-states,” said SUNR President Vane Cvetanov.
He added that HAASOB would support the complete alignment of the audit law with the highest standards of the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR) and the building of SUNR’s institutional capacities, digitization and staffing through joint application for European funds, as well as launch of the application process for full-fledged IFIAR membership.
