North Macedonia and Greece signed Friday an agreement over the construction of a natural gas interconnector, MIA reports from Athens.
The project, signed by Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi and Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas, is worth about EUR 100 million, of which EUR 54 million in North Macedonia.
The interconnector opens enormous opportunities not only for North Macedonia but also for Serbia, Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans region, ensuring natural gas diversification.
“This is a big step forward in improving the energy structure of our country and will contribute to the diversification of gas supply and stability of gas supplies in general,” said Minister Bekteshi.
Minister Skrekas said the agreement would create 1,000 jobs during the construction stage.
“The construction of this important project will cost about EUR 110 million, unifying the two gas systems of both countries. After launch, this pipeline will help the further development of our economies,” noted Skrekas.
