North Macedonia is ranked 78th with a 5.89 score in the latest Democracy Index, according to The Economist Intelligence Unit.
North Macedonia is described as ‘hybrid regime.’
Of the countries in the region, only two countries fare worse than North Macedonia – Montenegro is ranked 81st and BiH 101st.
Greece at 37th spot is ranked higher than other countries in the region, including Albania (71st), Serbia (66th), Croatia (60th), and Bulgaria (52nd).
Norway tops the annual Democracy Index global ranking with Sweden being third. The United States is 5th, Germany 14th, Russia 124th, China 151st. North Korea is on the bottom of the list of 167 countries included in the ranking of the Economist Intelligence Unit.
