As part of the instruments within the ‘Open Balkan’ initiative, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Ljupcho Nikolovski during Tuesday’s meeting in Belgrade with the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic agreed the ban on exports on wheat, corn, flour and sunflower oil from Serbia to North Macedonia to be lifted in the next 7 to 10 days, reports news agency MIA.
This will enable start of the delivery of quantities agreed between the trading partners of the two countries, MIA’s Belgrade correspondent reported.
“This means that all agreements of our trading partners from all chambers of commerce will be implemented, the ban will be lifted, and PM of the Macedonian government is to send a letter related to the agreed quantities, today to the Serbian Prime Minister, in order to lift the Serbian export ban in the next 7 days, as agreed at this meeting,” Nikolovski said.
“We are discussing possibilities on finding alternative markets and are fully committed to providing sufficient quantities of wheat, corn, flour, sunflower oil for the needs of every household in North Macedonia, Minister Nikolovski said in Belgrade.
On March 10, the Serbian government introduced a temporary ban on the export of wheat grains, wheat flour, corn and sunflower oil to timely respond to market disruptions and increased market demand due to the war in Ukraine.
