NATO wants “a serious conversation on arms control” with Russia but will not compromise on core principles, the Western alliance’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said in a press conference.
Stoltenberg said these principles include “the right of each nation to choose its own security arrangements.” NATO’s top official called on Russia to deescalate the crisis with Ukraine.
He was speaking after the alliance delivered a written response to Moscow’s security proposals for Europe. Stoltenberg said the alliance was ready to engage in constructive dialogue with Moscow to find a political solution to recent tensions.
