Buses carrying people rescued from the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol are expected to arrive in Zaporizhzhia on Tuesday afternoon. The Ukrainian health authorities, as well as volunteers, Doctors Without Borders and the World Health Organization (WHO), are prepared for all medical emergencies, the WHO coordinator on the ground, Dorit Nitzan, told reporters, writes MIA.
“We are ready for burns, fractures, wounds, infections, diarrhoea, respiratory infections, also pregnant women, malnutrition – we are well prepared,” Nitzan said.
People who have recently arrived in Zaporizhzhia, about 200 kilometres north-west of Mariupol, were in relatively good condition. Most of them were treated due to minor problems such as headaches and blisters. However, they were in difficult psychological condition, Nitzan explained.
“Mental health is a huge issue,” Nitzan said.
