Health Minister Venko Filipche on Tuesday called on the citizens to exercise extreme caution in the next two-three weeks, warning the country cannot risk being hit by another strong surge in coronavirus cases.
“When the epidemic is subduing and stabilizing, we shouldn’t do anything that it might worsen it. I call for responsible celebrations of the holidays with close family members by adhering to the protocols and measures ,” he told reporters, noting that they have proven effective so far.
Citing latest data, Minister Filipche said that the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continued to drop.
“The number of new infections dropped by 16.9% in the past seven days. The percentage of positive results out of all tests drops to 5% and also the number of fatalities drops by 5%,” he said.
The Minister also said that the number of appointments for COVID-19 testing was rising, which meant that the pressure was easing. A total of 381,207 COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far in the country.
