To mark 27 years since the Srebrenica genocide, European Council president Charles Michel said it was one of the darkest moments in modern European history, Bosnian daily Dnevni avaz reports, news agency MIA transmits.
“Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims and their families,” Michel wrote on Twitter.
He added that the tragic anniversary was also a reminder of the need to keep working together for peace in Europe and for Bosnia and Herzegovina to become part of the European Union. It is a day of mourning in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with flags lowered on state institutions in honor of the 2,000 killed Bosnian Muslim men and boys in the Bosnian town of Srebrenica in 1995.
A commemoration in their honor is also taking place at the Srebrenica–Potočari Memorial and Cemetery for the Victims of the 1995 Genocide.
