“Incidents like the Califiornian Wildfrires are unfortunately worldwide on the rise. Extreme weather phenomena, heavy storms, heavy rainfalls and on the other hand: long and desastrous droughts. I was completely shocked this year when I came in May to Hamburg my home town and saw the grass in our garden! Completely yellow, it was burnt. It looked like a desert. It was not raining for 3 months – for us completely unknown. It´s in the Northern of Germany where we normally have the worst rainy periods in the whole country. So no rain for 3 months!! We can imagine how the conditions are then in Africa, right?” said Marion Kraske, the director of the Sarajevo office of the Heinrich Böll foundation //Green Foundation from Germany linked to the Green Party (“The Greens”) – covering Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and North Macedonia at the “Greens are coming 2020” conference of CIVIL.
She adds that global warming is affecting all of us and the entire planet, as well as that humans are contributing to all climate change.
“What are we doing on a daily basis? We are producing and using an unnecessarily large amount of gasoline, oil, coal and natural gas we burn every day to heat our homes, to power our vehicles, manufacture goods and provide electricity. If you use the Application AIR Visual – you can see where we are with these activities…it´s a worldwide smog application. Sarajevo /Skoplje are in fact under the top 10 of the most polluted capitals worldwide. This fossile approach has failed since we are destroying our own living space. In fact we are endangering our lives – and those of our children.” said Marion Kraske. According to her, the answer to all of this is a green transition. “But green transition means much more than just the technical shift from coal or oil to wind or sun, to renewables. It means a real, comprehensive shift in the general mindset. Green means nothing more and nothing less then sustainable /caring. It means: I do care. Caring for our children, caring for the next generations. Caring for the planet.”, Marion Kraske added.
What we need are sustainable approaches in all segments to find concrete solutions for the global challenge of climate change:Creative public transport and smart city solutions, Promoting clean, green energy to replace coal and nuclear plants (ultimate goal is clear- decarbonization), Healthy food, healthy animals., Economic goals are: To boost environmentally-friendly energy., By doing this: Creating green new jobs, Fighting smog – strongly connected to climate change.
