Finances
The Ministry of Finance today at a conference, in front of representatives of the European Commission OECD and SIGMA, presented the “Policy for internal financial control in the public sector”, that is, the strategy for the future development of the public internal financial control. From the European Commission they highlighted that we are the first country in the region to have prepared such a strategy.
Minister of Finance, Dragan Tevdovski, pointed out that the public internal financial control is part of the future negotiations with the EU. This chapter, according to the experience of some of the countries in the region, is among the more complex ones in terms of harmonization with international standards and EU best practices. However, said Tevdovski, our country has carried out several twinning projects for the public internal financial control, hence he expects that we will be prepared for the negotiations.
From the European Commission they pointed out that the reforms will provide more transparent and accountable decision-making.
Trials
Gordana Jankulovska, former Ministry of Interior, received a prison sentence of 4 years instead of 6, for the case “Tank”, which was decided by the Court of Appeal of Skopje.
“The Court of Appeal Skopje informs that in acting upon the criminal case publically known as “Tank”, following a public session, it has brought a verdict whereby it has partially accepted the appeals of the accused G.J from S., in a way that has altered the initial verdict in the part of the decision on the sentence and sentenced the accused to prison of four years. The Court of Appeal in the remaining part confirmed the first-instance verdict entirely”, is said in the court statement.
Parliament
Parliamentary questions were scheduled for today in Parliament, whereas Prime Minister Zoran Zaev met with the leaders of the Albanian opposition, Zijadin Sela from the Alliance for the Albanians and Bilal Kasami from Besa, where they expressed support for the SPO’s existence as a separate body within the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will have effective competencies.
The meeting comes in a period when the government is in search of 80 MP votes in order to adopt the new Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which also determines the fate of the SPO.
