Pendarovski, Siljanovska-Davkovska and Reka submit presidential candidacies
Today the signatures for the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM and the coalition, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Stevo Pendarovski, were submitted to the SEC, and previously the candidacy for Blerim Reka was submitted, who received support from Besa and the Alliance for the Albanians. The three candidacies are expected to officially be confirmed at today’s session of the SEC.
The President of the SEC, Oliver Derkoski, announced that the order of the candidates on the ballot for the upcoming presidential elections that are to be held on April 21, would be determined tomorrow.
And Filip Petrovski, on the other hand, will sue the SEC.
Decline in students for the 2017/2018 school year
At the end of the 2017/2018 school year, the number of students in the regular elementary schools was 188.517, which is a decrease of 0.9 percent compared to the previous school year.
According to the data of the State Statistical Office, in the regular secondary schools at the end of the 2017/2018 school year there were 70.861 students, or a decrease of 2.2 percent compared to the 2016/2017 school year.
The landfills – our cultural heritage
The Contemporary Art Center with the project “Creative Communities”, supported by the USAID project for Citizens’ Participation, carried out a guerilla – action in 200 landfills across the country, which it declared as an “authentic cultural heritage”.
According to information from the CAC, there are over 300 landfills in the country and more than 1500 illegal landfills and dumps. The CAC points out the Polog, Skopje and Kumanovo region as most endangered. For their growth and richness of waste, the “prettiest ones” received appropriate signs that declare them as a national cultural treasure.
World Down Syndrome Day
Down syndrome – Trisomy 21 is a chromosomal disorder caused by extra genetic material in chromosome 21. It was discovered in 1866 by physician John Legdon Down. Later this genetic chromosome disorder was called Down syndrome, caused by abnormal cell division before fertilization.
Today World Down Syndrome Day is observed.
Citizen journalism on the front-lines
“Citizen journalists are on the front line in revealing irregularities in society, in the exercise of power, in the abuse of office and public resources. The same goes also for the observing the election processes”, is said in the beginning of the video call for participation of citizen journalists in the monitoring of the election process which, on behalf of CIVIL, was made by Xhabir Deralla.
Security and the elections
The team of CIVIL – Center for Freedom today met with Minister of Interior, Oliver Spasovski, as part of the series of meetings that the organization has with relevant institutions and organizations on the topic presidential elections.
CIVIL’s team and Minister Spasovski agreed that it is of crucial importance to have a safe and lawful election process in which primarily the citizens will be protected, both in and outside the polling station. Experience shows, stressed CIVIL’s representatives, that most of the threats, pressures, vote-buying and even hate speech take place precisely outside the polling station.
