At the headquarters of SDSM, the handing over of the position of President of the party of recent leader Zoran Zaev to the newly elected Dimitar Kovacevski took place this afternoon.
Zaev, as SDSM press service informed, congratulated newly elected Kovacevski on the victory and wished him a successful term.
-President, we wish you luck, you have the wisdom, to protect this biggest and state-building party, to foster social democracy, to take care for the unity and to preserve freedom and democracy in our country, as well as in the party. I wish you a successful term as President of SDSM, for you to choose a wise leadership that we all will follow. SDSM is the pillar of statehood, said Zaev to Kovacevski.
Kovacevski thanked him for his contribution in leading the party, but also the Government in recent years.
-I also thank you for the wise decisions you have made for the party, but also for the state, thanks to which today the country is a member of NATO and we are on the threshold of starting EU negotiations, said Kovacevski.
He thanked Zaev also for leaving a party that has the greatest cadre potential.
Dimitar Kovacevski, at the extraordinary intra-party election on December 12, with 37,649 votes from the membership, was elected President of SDSM.
Kovacevski takes over the position of Zoran Zaev, who was leader of SDSM from 2013 and who after the failure of the local elections in October announced a resignation both from the positon of party leader and Prime Minister.
