The Mayor of Veles, Ace Kocevski, participated in the workshop “What kind of Macedonia do I want”, organized by CIVIL. He shared information with the citizen activists who were present at the workshop in regards to the activities of the municipality in the area of preserving and protecting the environment and improving the life of the Veles people. Among else, Koceski stressed that in the Euro-integration process, he a s a mayor will try to achieve them through transparency and cooperation with civil society, but also with the citizens.
“How prepared Veles is I don’t know, but we do not have another alternative. Veles has always radiated with positive European values, especially at the time of the revival. All progressive ideas in Macedonia were spread through Veles. We have a serious task to be consistent to our glorious predecessors and to practice the same in the following period. I think we well do this successfully, but primarily we need evolution or revolution of the mind in order to achieve that. We need to change some habits if we want to achieve real European values, and not to say one things in front of the public, in front of the Europeans, but to truly think that what we are saying in front of the foreigners is the real path”, stated Kocevski for CIVIL Media in regards to the question how prepared Veles is to respect and practice European values.
As to the green initiatives, Kocevski stated that he is proud of his fellow citizens because Veles is considered a city with the most developed environmental awareness, and that other cities in Macedonia can learn a lot from them.
“In my program I promised that Veles would be a nice place for living and that it would be a green city. We have already started with specific activities on how to increase the green areas and the number of seedlings…we will also carry out massive actions of afforestation of the nearby bare hills”, said Kocevski.
The mayor is certain that he will receive the support of the Council of the Municipality and of the citizens for all of these activities.
