For 27 years, CIVIL has defended democracy, human rights, freedom of expression, and the public’s right to know. Through independent journalism, monitoring, civic engagement, and international cooperation, we have worked to expose abuses of power, challenge disinformation, propaganda and hybrid warfare operations. We committed ourselves to defending human rights and strengthening democratic resilience.
Independent media and civil society do not disappear overnight. They are worn down. By pressure, uncertainty, exhaustion, and the gradual disappearance of resources.
For more than ten months, CIVIL has operated under emergency financial conditions. Our journalists, analysts, and human rights defenders have continued their work despite these difficulties.
Commitment, however, cannot replace the financial resources needed to keep independent voices alive.
CIVIL has launched an emergency fundraising appeal to secure approximately three months of essential organisational and independent media operations.
The funds will support basic personnel costs, journalism work, communications, cybersecurity, workspace, and other indispensable operational needs.
We are not asking for support to launch another project. We are asking for solidarity to continue the work we are already doing for decades.
Defending democracy beyond borders
For well over a decade, CIVIL has monitored and exposed Russian propaganda, disinformation, foreign interference, and hybrid threats across North Macedonia, the Western Balkans, and Europe.
We stand firmly with Ukraine and its people in their struggle for freedom, sovereignty, and a just and lasting peace. As a co-founding organisation of the Defending Democracy Global Initiative and a contributor to the Westminster Alliance for Ukraine, CIVIL works with international partners to strengthen democratic resilience and solidarity.
Our commitment remains unchanged.
