CIVIL-Center for Freedom and the Ministry of Interior Affairs signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership in the fight against violent extremism and terrorism.
“The civil sector can give a strong and significant contribution, both through expertise and through presence on the ground, in the fight against what is the biggest threat in the modern world, and that being radicalization, extreme nationalism, radical terrorism …” stated Xhabir Deralla, President of CIVIL – Center for Freedom, after the signing of the Memorandum.
Deralla highlighted that CIVIL continues its cooperation precisely where it was interrupted for a long time, that is, the communication between the civil society organizations and the citizens with the relevant institutions in the field of security.
“As an organization, CIVIL is known for being involved in the domain of arms control from various aspects… CIVIL as a relevant organization dealing with electoral monitoring, has cooperated with appropriate institutions in the efforts to reduce, or eliminate election irregularities,” said Derala .
Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski pointed out that the cooperation with CIVIL will help in strengthening the confidence of citizens in the police.
The need is indisputable, but also the possibilities for joint action of the police with civil associations, especially in the area of education and prevention. It is no less important to take into account the need for more intense civic activism, which will at the same time be a corrector, an important controller, and also an advisory mechanism, because the norms and work tasks are accomplished by the Ministry directly in cooperation with the citizens” said Spasovski.
Spasovski underlined that the Memorandum, as a legal framework, also encompasses a series of activities that the Ministry of Interior, together with CIVIL, should define and detect for common interest, such as the education and prevention of radicalization, violent extremism, terrorism and the problem of arms control.
