January 18: Reforms, protests, corruption and law on languages
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Market sellers go on a protest

This morning the market sellers went on a protest in front of the Parliament of Republic of Macedonia in sign of revolt against the new law, which requires for them to provide licenses and forbids pensioners to sell on markets, with which new obligations and increased fees are being imposed upon them.

Namely, the license for a stand, which will be issued by the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, costs 3600 denars, and for a second stand 2400 denars.

According to the new law, pensioners, social cases, redundant workers and freelancers will not be able to work on the markets in the country.

The adoption of the Law on the use of languages puts an end to nationalism

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia, in regards to the spreading of fake news and fabrications about the application of the Law on the use of languages in the Republic of Macedonia, announces the following facts:

“The Law on the use of languages in the Republic of Macedonia was adopted according to the anticipated procedures in the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia. The opposition

had all the opportunities to participate with amendments in the improvement of the law. The opposition decided not to participate in the political process of adopting the Law on the use of languages.

VMRO-DPMNE files criminal charges against Xhaferi, Ibraimi and Kostovski in regards to the Law on the use of languages

VMRO-DPMNE has filed criminal charges against Talat Xhaferi, Nexhbedin Ibraimi and Martin Kostovski due to reasonable suspicion that they have committed the criminal acts “Misuse of official position and authorization” according to Article 353, “Criminal association” according to Article 394 and “Sabotage” according to Article 315 of the Criminal Code. The Law on bilingualism is harmful and will cause far-reaching consequences for Republic of Macedonia, stated Igor Janushev, Secretary General of VMRO-DPMNE.

Citizens will have the right to report corruption

The Parliament of Republic of Macedonia, with 81 votes “for” and in shortened procedure, adopted the Law on prevention of corruption and conflict of interests (17/1/2019), hence ending the ten-month waiting for the processes in the sphere of combatting corruption to budge.

The Minister of Justice, Renata Deskoska, stated that it concerns a quality European law, in which the recommendations of the European Commission are incorporated and of Reinhard Priebe’s expert group.

In regards to yesterday’s adoption of the Law on prevention of corruption and conflict of interests, Renata Deskoska, responded on her Facebook profile, where she commented yesterday’s interpretation of the media regarding the adopted Law on prevention of corruption and conflict of interests.

“Having in consideration that there have been misunderstandings that the citizens allegedly will not be able to report corruption, I would like to point out some legal provisions of the new Law on prevention of corruption and conflict of interests:

1. The right for everyone to report corruption is expressly guaranteed in Article 7.

2. Article 23 guarantees that the SCPC initiates a procedure upon its own initiative or upon a received complaint. 3. In the area of financing parties, anyone can give an initiative to the SCPC, and if it is grounded, the SCPC ex officio initiates a procedure. NGOs, parties are stated as initiators of procedures whose initiatives are sent to the parties for a response. 4. In an election campaign, everyone has the right to report corruption. Participants in the elections and observers also have the right to an objection, and if they are not satisfied with the decision of the SCPC, they have the right to appeal to the Administrative Court!”, wrote Deskoska.

Social reform in Macedonia a positive example for social innovations in the world

The Minister of Labor and Social Policy attended the event for promoting the book “Thinking about social innovations”, dedicated to the social practices in the world. Over 60 examples of best practices are presented in the book, among which is also the social reform that is currently being implemented in Macedonia.

“Our goal is to build a system of social protection that provides quality life for all, and one from which the entire society will benefit, and not just individuals. Precisely this is the essence of the social reform, with which we are helping over 40.000 citizens to permanently overcome poverty, and we are also drastically reducing child poverty. We are building a system in which no one will be forgotten, and one that includes all vulnerable categories. We are offering permanent solutions, proving a chance for everyone, but at the same time we are also treating the major social problems”, stated Carovska.
