The European Union (EU) enlargement to the Western Balkans is the only positive perspective for the region, which reduces reasons for disputes and conflicts, stated Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, as reported by MIA news agency.
“With EU membership, the question of where the borders are and who has been in a disadvantaged position in the past is pushed aside, and a common future comes to the forefront”, stated Jansa for RAI 2 television.
He said that Slovenia, when it comes to the situation with Ukraine, together with the other European countries, shares the concern for maintaining peace in the eastern neighborhood.
According to Jansa, Slovenia and other European countries strongly believe that every country has the right to decide individually on their foreign policy orientation, including EU and NATO membership.
As STA reports, he said that third countries, in this case Russia, have no right to veto the decision of a nation for self-determination.
