DUI President Ali Ahmeti organized a reception on the occasion of the invitation for Macedonia to join NATI. All DUI officials and MP’s were present at the reception, as well as diplomats and ambassadors from several countries, among which also US Ambassador Jess Baily and the Head of the Islamic Religious Community, Reis Ul Ulema Sulejman efendi Rexhepi.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, in an interview for Al Jazeera, said that he is convinced that the referendum will be successful.
“If there is one vote not in favor, we are absolutely ready to extend a hand and say that this is not the right path. The citizens have known to choose the right path in times of great historical dilemmas. Ahead of us is a choice between the past and the future, fear and hope. The past is very important for our identity, but we cannot change it, we can finally offer our citizens a choice of what kind of country Macedonia will be…”, stated Dimitrov.
On the eastern façade of the Museum of the City of Skopje new letters are starting to be put up from the famous sentence that Josip Broz Tito said a day after the catastrophic earthquake in Skopje.
“Skopje endured a terrible catastrophe, but Skopje will be built with the help of the entire community. It will become the symbol of brotherhood and unity, of Yugoslav and world-wide solidarity. Tito Skopje, July 27, 1963”.
This summer numerous activities will be organized in which citizen journalists can take part, especially ahead of the hot political autumn, when they can play an important role in the implementation of a fair and democratic referendum process. Therefore, taking part in the seminars that will be organized by CIVIL in the upcoming period is especially important, because they will now include a component that will give participants access to new ways of monitoring important events and processes, such as the elections and referendum voting. Seminars for citizen journalists will be held on July 28 in Veles, and on July 29 in Stip.
