Citizen journalists have led the main coverage on the situation with the pro-democracy citizens’ protests for justice, freedom and democracy in the past two months. This also marks the course of the Civic Lenses Project and the awards for citizen journalists in this cycle of awards by CIVIL – Center for Freedom.
This time, CIVIL is awarding ten citizen journalists within the third cycle of awards.
The awards ceremony will be held in Opera House Hotel, in Skopje, on Wednesday – 18 Маy, starting at 11.00 am. Video and photo materials that were prepared by the citizen journalists are accompanied with short stories. Most of the contributions are already publicized on CIVIL’s online outlets, including the Civil Macedonia YouTube channel.
A large part of the video and photo materials that will be displayed are related to the protests that took place throughout Macedonia, presented through the lenses of citizen journalists across the country.
Contributions that were received in March and April for the competition “Be a citizen journalist”, were assessed by a three-member committee of CIVIL.
The ten most successful contributions will be awarded with vouchers for photo, video and computer equipment. The highest prize is 110 dollars. Two of these highest prizes will be awarded.
Participants and lecturers who took part in the training seminars for citizen journalists within the framework of the Civic Lenses Project have also been invited to this event.
The Project and the work of the citizen journalists will be presented prior to the presentation of the awards.
CIVIL invites all interested citizens, and representatives of civil society and the media.
During the event, representatives of CIVIL will be available to the media for any other questions concerning the current situation in the country.
The award ceremony is part of the Civic Lenses Project, financed by the National Endowment for Democracy.
