On the occasion of November 29 –Liberation Day of Albania from the fascist occupiers, the highway “Rruga e Arbrit “(Arbr Road), has opened, which connects Albania with North Macedonia at the border near Debar.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by ministers, was welcomed with drums by a large number of residents from the Pehkopia area, but also from Debar, which is a neighboring municipality. A delegation from the Municipality of Debar, led by Mayor Hekuran Duka, also attended this event.
-The highway, the construction of which is to be completed in the spring next year, will traverse through a ring road near the place Muriz, due to construction of a tunnel. It will be closed for traffic in the upcoming winter period when there will be heavy snowfall, said the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Baluki.
The highway that ends at the “Blato” border crossing, four kilometers from Debar, shortens the distance to Tirana by over 100 kilometers. Now the distance Tirana-Blato is 72 kilometers. The highway is planned to continue also on the Macedonian territory.
This section, which passes through mountainous areas, has six tunnels, five of which are constructed, and four bridges, one of them near the village Fshat, with 158 meters it is the highest in the Balkans.
