According to the Ministry of Health, 40 doses of four-type seasonal flu vaccines have been procured this year for the following risk groups:
- Elderly (over 65 years)
- People with chronic diseases
- Health workers
- Pregnant women
- Children aged 6 months to 5 years
For the third year in a row, the vaccine for these groups of citizens is free. Due to the growing demand for influenza vaccines globally, efforts are being made to get vaccine shipments as soon as possible.
– We emphasize that it is not too late for the citizens to be vaccinated against the flu in November or December, because according to the epidemiological data, this disease in the last ten seasons reaches its peak at the end of February, say the Ministry.
Registration for seasonal flu vaccination will start today through the site vakcinacija.mk. By filling out the form, you register for vaccination directly in the “My appointment” system. According to the schedule provided in the vaccination plan, you will receive information via SMS about the exact date and time when you should be vaccinated at the point of your choice during registration.
Influenza vaccination does not protect against covidium 19, but it is very important in conditions of covidium-19 pandemic and the impact on the health system.
– In a state of loosening restrictive measures when social contacts and travel are restored, the risk of co-circulation of covid-19 and influenza increases. Thus we can expect the seasonal flu load to be supplemented by the covid-19 load. The risk groups for influenza are the ones that are at the highest risk and from covid-19, which is why flu vaccination is recommended for them. In that way, additional burden on the health system will be avoided, because people with the flu would be hospitalized in the covid centers, emphasize the Ministry.
