The coronavirus epidemic in North Macedonia is stabilizing according to the weekly reports published by the Public Health Institute in the past month. Almost all epidemiological parameters used to evaluate the epidemiological situation are noting a downward trend, i.e. there’s an increase in the number of recovered patients, the Ministry of Health said in a press release on Thursday.
According to the Institute’s report for the period Jan 11-17, 16% of COVID-19 tests conducted came back positive, which is a 13.3% decrease compared to the period Dec. 14-20, when 29.3% of conducted tests were positive.
Moreover, the report for Dec 14-20 shows that the number of new COVID-19 cases that week stood at 4,585, while according to the Public Health Institute the number of new cases Jan 11-17 was 2,397, i.e. 48% less. Reports also show that the number of deaths at weekly level has dropped by half in the past month, while more patients have started to recover.
According to Wednesday’s daily statistics, the number of active coronavirus cases in North Macedonia stands at 11,924. On December 20, the number of active cases was 21,979, meaning it has dropped by 46%.
One of the key indicators of the epidemiological situation in the country is the number of patients hospitalized at infectious diseases units in the capital and across the country. On Wednesday, a total of 598 patients were treated at hospitals in North Macedonia, which is 51% less than a month ago.
As a result of the drop in the number of hospitalized patients, several COVID centers as part of Skopje-based internal clinics have shut down, the press release read.
