Today’s disclosure of the wiretapped conversations of the highest representatives of the government provided evidence of extremely irresponsible behavior of Saso Mijalkov, the head of MOI’s Security and Counterintelligence Directorate in the Republic of Macedonia. In the wiretapped conversation disclosed by the opposition, it is clear that Mijalkov is in an environment in which ruling party members are shooting with guns and automatic rifles at a party celebration, displaying pride by such conduct, encouraging it and, possibly, shooting himself.
It is highly inappropriate that high representatives of the government, particularly of the security sector, engage in a wild celebratory firing, instead of being those who are providing an example of anti- gun culture efforts.
As an organization committed to arms control and overcoming gun culture in the society, and marking the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence in the Republic of Macedonia, CIVIL – Center for Freedom strongly condemns this behavior which is in a clear breach of laws and is against all standards of professional and civilized conduct.
We advise the public to condemn such deeds, regardless of the societal position of the transgressors, and to take this wretched event as an example on how NOT to act.
