The Government adopted Tuesday the texts of the set of waste management laws, aligned with EU regulations, fully implementing the principles of circular economy in waste management.
The Government adopted the texts of the draft-law on waste management, draft-law on extended producer responsibility in waste management, draft-law on management of electrical and electronic equipment and waste electrical and electronic equipment, draft-law on waste management in the extended producer responsibility system, draft-law on management of packaging and waste packaging, and draft-law on management of batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators.
“The core benefits of the laws are, among other things, enhancing the tasks for producers and collective handlers, as well as municipalities, in ensuring the required waste selection; setting up hierarchy in waste management; defining the status of secondary raw materials and termination of the waste status for products that can be reused, recycled and processed not to end up at landfills; financial responsibility for producers of packaging, batteries and accumulators, electrical and electronic waste, as well as waste management of used vehicles, waste oils, waste tires and textile; ban for plastic bags; eco-design at packaging, and stimulus options for returnable packaging, the Government said in a press release.
The draft-laws are set to be forwarded for adoption in the Parliament.
