Germany sent weapons and equipment worth more than €190 million ($201 million) to Ukraine in the first eight weeks after Russia’s invasion. Germany gave the go-ahead for the delivery of war weapons worth 120.5 million euros and other armaments worth 71.4 million euros between February 24 and April 19, the German economics ministry said in response to a parliamentary question, MIA writes.
This compares to more than 3.7 billion dollars’ worth of arms and ammunition promised or already delivered to Ukraine by the United States. The Baltic republic of Estonia has so far provided military aid worth more than 220 million euros to Ukraine.
Two days after the Russian attack on Ukraine, the German government decided to supply weapons to the war zone, including anti-aircraft missiles, bazookas and ammunition as well as machine-guns.
Last week, Berlin approved the export of 50 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, marking the first time heavy weapons will be delivered directly from Germany.
