German Ambassador Anke Holstein handed over Thursday a donation of 72,000 COVID-19 rapid antigen tests worth EUR 298,000 for the public health institutions and covid-centers across the country.
“I am pleased to hand over another donation for the Macedonian public health, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office through the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW). Since the start of the pandemic, Germany has supported North Macedonia’s health sector with about EUR 1,45 million,” said Ambassador Holstein.
She added that Germany is the co-founder of the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-A) and its largest donor with EUR 2,1 billion, noting that the COVAX Facility is supplying 142 countries with COVID-19 vaccines.
“In this, one in five euros comes from Germany, and one in three from the European Union. Our goal is for everyone across the globe to get the vaccine, because we will be safe when everyone is safe,” said Holstein.
Health Minister Venko Filipche said the donation is another step forward in the continued cooperation over the years, which has intensified since the start of the covid-crisis.
“Over the past year, Germany has donated a significant amount of personal protective equipment, ventilators, special protective masks and now rapid antigen tests,” said Filipche and thanked Holstein for her personal engagement in the efforts.
