Doncho Gerasimovski, former director of the State Statistical Office at the panel discussion “Census: Between Politics and Statistics” organized by CIVIL said that the new way of conducting the census is a novelty for the country and that the State Statistical Office is trying to contribute high results to obtain data as quickly as possible.
“Conditions and opportunities, although the activities of the Office started a few years ago, now with the pandemic the process has slowed down, but the institutions function among themselves with coordination. I am surprised that I am participating in those consultations and that we would have made a step out of another system,” said Gerasimovski.
Gerasimovski expects that modern work will be achieved and that the necessary data will be obtained quickly.
“In the census, it is very important how the preparations for the organization are made and how the field data is implemented. “It will be best if we are obedient and respect the laws, and the quality of the data will meet the needs of the state,” said Gerasimovski.
According to him, politics and parties should leave themselves out of the census and not try to manipulate the data or in the implementation process.
“The State Statistical Office is committed to applying those standards in the Law and the manner of implementation and we will have good results,” said Gerasimovski.
Regarding the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, Gerasimovski says that due to the large number of sick and dead, people are in a dilemma in terms of security and how it will take place, but that some countries think that it can still be implemented during that period.
“The census is the most complex financial construction and requires the engagement of a large number of human resources,” he added.
