European Union Ambassador David Geer said Monday the negotiating network with North Macedonia should be adopted and agree on a date for the intergovernmental conference to take place as soon as possible, which is in the mutual interest.
“All 27 EU member-states decided back in March that North Macedonia is prepared to start Union accession negotiations. The decision was adopted then and now we have to adopt the negotiating framework for your country and agree on a date for the intergovernmental conference between the country an the European Union to take place as soon as possible,” Ambassador Geer told a press conference.
According to him, all of this is time consuming, but the important thing is for the country’s Euro-integration process not to be questioned.
“What is important for your country is to continue on the reform path and do this as soon as possible, because this is not only in EU’s interest but also in the interest of the citizens of North Macedonia. Of course, it is exceptionally important to resume the dialogue with Bulgaria, in the spirit of the Friendship Treaty. The question now is not whether the country will start EU negotiations but when,” noted Geer.
