Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani delivered Wednesday an address on “Effective response to the crisis in the public healthcare in full respect of democracy, rule of law and human rights” at a videoconference of the 130th session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers.
The session, chaired by Greece, marks the 70th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights, the Foreign Ministry says in a press release.
“The Council of Europe (CoE) continues to support North Macedonia, especially in the context of preparing for the negotiations to join the EU. Ongoing activities are of great importance as part of the Council of Europe strategic triangle of standard-setting, monitoring and cooperation. The government of North Macedonia is fully committed to respecting the values and principles of the Council of Europe, seen as guidelines for our country towards full integration into the EU,” said Osmani.
He said the Council of Europe plays a key role in helping member countries respond effectively to the COVID-19 crisis, all the while making sure the measures introduced don’t threaten protection of human rights, democracy and rule of law.
Germany will take over from Greece the six-month chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which ends in May 2021, said the press release.
