The European Parliament condemns in the strongest possible terms the Russian Federation’s illegal, unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine, the involvement of Belarus in the aggression, and strongly regrets Serbia’s non-alignment with EU sanctions against Moscow, news agency MIA informs.
“The European Parliament condemns in the strongest possible terms the Russian Federation’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against and invasion of Ukraine, as well as the involvement of Belarus in this aggression,” reads a resolution passed at the EU Parliament extraordinary session on Ukraine.
MEPs have voted 637 to 13 with 26 abstentions in favor of the resolution.
They called on EU institutions to work towards granting EU candidate status to Ukraine on the basis of merit, and, in the meantime, to continue to work towards its integration into the EU single market along the lines of the Association Agreement.
The resolution demands that the Russian Federation immediately terminate all military activities in Ukraine, unconditionally withdraw all military and paramilitary forces and military equipment from the entire internationally recognized territory of Ukraine. It notes with grave concern the persistent efforts by the Russian Federation to destabilize the Western Balkan countries and interfere with their democratic processes.
