On the occasion of 20th anniversary of the CINEDAYS Festival of European Film, the Delegation of the European Union and Youth Cultural Centre launched Thursday a new programme to reach out to new audiences outside of Skopje, the European Travelling Cinema under the Open Sky.
It will travel in Kriva Palanka, Strumica and Struga in the period from June 25 to July 10.
Addressing the event, EU Ambassador David Geer said that cinema has a great potential to communicate about our lives, about Europe and its stories and its values, such as freedom of expression, equality, respect for environment, democracy and its social model.
“Conceived as an annual showcase of the cinema produced in the EU, acknowledged by many critics and loved by many European audiences, the European travelling cinema under the open sky will travel to 3 different towns, these towns are Kriva Palanka, so will be opening at the beautiful square in front of European House, Strumica in a city park and Struga which has that charming summer scene of the city cultural centre,” EU Ambassador Geer said.
He added that open-air film screenings are much loved cinematic experiences and he expressed hopes that film lovers will enjoy these opportunities in each of these venues.
“This year’s selection of films reflects the wider diversity and creativity in the European Union and provides a diversity for everyone’s taste, it covers a different themes such as the dark side of digital technology, acceptance and diversity, life of people living with disabilities, tackling violence and prejudices, corruption and work of civil society. The festival will provide a unique opportunity to discuss the films with the film critic Vlatko Galevski and his guests, experts on the topics covered in the film,” Geer added.
Coordinator of CINEDAYS Festival of European Film Margarita Arsova, informed that the programme includes latest European films that will be premiered to local audiences, and that more than five films are planned to be screened.
“The programme will also include six or seven films along with short films from the Macedonian cinematography. It will feature films “Cocoon,” “Hacker”, as well as “The Journey of the Prince”, which is a philosophical film for children and many other films for kids as “Rocca changes the world”, “My brother chases dinosaurs,”
and many others,” Arsova said.
