Tomorrow (Wednesday, July 28, 2021) in Skopje, starting at 11.00 am at Park Residence & Spa Hotel and via video-link, a Regional Conference organized by CIVIL and Balkan Forum will be held, bringing together eminent experts, human rights activists and civil society representatives from Europe and the region.
The Conference “Attacks on democracy and human rights: Civil society organizations in support of Western Balkans societies facing disinformation, hate speech and hybrid attacks”, focuses on two thematic issues: How disinformation disrupt the public discourse and encourage radically insulting rhetoric and hate speech? And: How hybrid attacks distort the public discourse and threaten democracies?
Among participants and speakers at the two conference panels are Marion Kraske, Prof. Snezana Trpevska PhD, Wolfgang Ressmann PhD, Amina Shurkovic, Nenad Shebek, Abit Hozha, Tijana Cvjetichanin, Amina Shemsovic, Erjon Curaj, Bojan Kordalov, Mersiha Smailovic, Vladimir Georgievski and other representatives of media and civil society.
They will share their knowledge, opinions and experience at the European, regional and national level on the most common types and sources of disinformation, hate speech and hybrid attacks; about how institutions and societies cope with these issues / phenomena and, what are the best practices proven to be successful in dealing with these phenomena.
The Regional Conference, organized by CIVIL in cooperation with Balkan Forum and members of the Civil Society Platform for Democracy and Human Rights (CSP), is the first in the series of events that members of CSP will organize until December 2021.
Working language of the event is English. The event will be aired on the Internet through CIVIL’s online platforms, its Facebook pages and YouTube channel, while the media content will be translated by CIVIL and the Balkan Forum and subtitled in the languages spoken in our region. Media are also invited to attend on follow the conference with physical presence or online.
