DUI leader Ali Ahmeti on early Friday was quizzed by prosecutors at the Skopje Public Prosecution for Organized Crime and Corruption regarding the 2011 failed census.
Ahmeti arrived at the prosecution’s office earlier than initially reported on his request, it was confirmed to MIA.
He arrived around 8 am to be interviewed. Earlier, it was reported that he would be at the prosecution’s office at 10 am.
The now defunct Special Public Prosecution (SPO) had opened an investigation in the case called ‘Census’. It is now being handled by the Public Prosecution for Organized Crime and Corruption.
The investigation is focused on the 2011 census, organized by the then-government of VMRO-DPMNE and DUI.
According to the SPO, by suspending the population census, the former PM and VMRO-DPMNE leader, Nikola Gruevski – who has fled the country – and his government coalition partner, Ali Ahmeti, had damaged the national budget by EUR 2.8 million.
