The leaders’ meeting that was held last night will continue on Sunday night, or Monday morning.
The participants at yesterday’s leaders’ meeting did not reach an agreement, but as they stated after the meeting ended, they have come close regarding some issues, and for some have difficulties in finding a common position.
Zaev stressed that compromises cannot be made in regards to Macedonia’s strategic goals – joining EU and NATO and amnesty, while Mickoski demanded European attitude not only in words, but also in action.
After the leaders’ meeting, Mickoski in a statement for journalists emphasized that they had discussed topics that are already familiar to the public, and are part of the negotiations from March-April.
“I use this opportunity to express a certain impression of mine, which is not based on feelings, but of efforts of VMRO-DPMNE, and they are the real European values and principles, and not just declarative efforts. If we really are striving towards European values and principles, then that is how we should also behave and apply those same efforts in practice. That implies respecting the laws and the Constitution and protecting any attempt to outsmart the will of the citizens, or to raise questions with various meaning for crucial topics for which we, as citizens, are concerned for the future of this country”, pointed out Mickoski.
VMRO-DPMNE, after the end of last night’s meeting of the Executive Committee of the party, announced that it remains in its position in that before every election a technical government should be elected, and demanded realization of the already agreed concepts for the financing of parties.
Only in this way will the voters have a guarantee that the government will not abuse their vote, that is, that the opposition will have an opportunity to act appropriately in all attempts for possible counterfeiting”, is said in VMRO-DPMNE’s announcement.
The Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs today continued the session at which the only item on the agenda are the draft amendments to the Electoral Code, which are adopted in a shortened procedure. A total of 401 amendments are to be considered at the session, which have been submitted by MP’s of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE.
The session began yesterday, in a tense atmosphere. The MP’s from VMRO-DPMNE demanded for the session to be postponed due to procedural reasons, because the submitted amendments had neither been archived or translated. The President of the Committee, Artan Grubi, still did open the session and announced that he would schedule a continuation as soon as the amendments were translated.
The Committee debate should end today, because according to the Rules of Procedure, for laws that are adopted in a shortened procedure and are with a European flag, they last two days.
The amendments anticipate the election of the members of the SEC to be carried out with 61 MP’s, instead of with a two-thirds majority. The SEC should organize the implementation of the referendum, which is an obligation from the Prespa Agreement.
The manager of the “Transmet” company, Sead Kocan, was sentenced to six years in prison today at the Criminal Court, for abuse of the procedure for public announcement, granting an agreement for public procurement or public-private partnership, that is, that he participated with fake documents and received a tender for excavation of coal and dross in REK ‘Bitola’ of AD ELEM worth 17 million euros, for which the Special Prosecutor’s Office charged him.
The second accused Vasilie Avirovic, in the capacity of manager of the firm “Sileks Nemetali ST”, was sentenced to three years in prison for the same crime. Today he did not participate at court when the verdict was announced because he was not feeling well.
