Deputy PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov launched his Baltic tour with meetings in the Parliament of Latvia early on Thursday.
Rihards Kols, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Vita Anda Tērauda, Chairwoman of the Committee for European Affairs, reaffirmed Latvia’s support for North Macedonia’s start of the European Union accession negotiations, the Secretariat for European Affairs said in a press release.
“Latvian experience in the Euro-integration process brought fresh energy and hope for consolidation of the European continent. The sincere and friendly support is a big incentive for continuation of reforms, and parliamentary cooperation is one of the concrete indicators in this regard, contributing to the promotion of democracy,” said Deputy PM Dimitrov.
The Latvian lawmakers congratulated North Macedonia on its NATO membership and noted that further delay of the country’s accession negotiations sends a demoralizing signal to the Western Balkans and all countries that have been committed in implementing democratic reforms with the ultimate goal of EU membership, reads the press release.
