The Mayor of the Municipality of Kumanovo, Maksim Dimitrievski, for CIVIL’s Initiative “Make a difference, respect diversity” in a video statement talks about the aspects of multi-ethnicity and European values in Kumanovo.
“By European values we mean unity, mutual respect, right for minorities and certainly human rights and freedoms. The Municipality of Kumanovo is a multiethnic municipality and represents Macedonia in a little way. Different ethnic communities live in it and they all have the same rights and opportunities. They are obliged to respect the laws of the state and to follow them. The municipality is trying to build greater capacities to follow the current trends in the part of what European values mean, but also the European integration process, because Macedonia physically belongs to Europe and our place is there, in the EU. By default, we are required to commit to such values where everyone will have equal opportunity”, says Dimitrievski.
“Within the framework of the Municipality, there is a sector for European integration and local economic development, and we complement those teams and capacities every day with quality staff so that we can follow these trends and to prepare for the challenges ahead, especially in the area of the implementation of the agreement that should follow with the EU”.
